SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development)

Not everything that counts can be counted.

– Albert Einstein

At Ewyas Harold Primary School we recognise that the personal development of our pupils plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve their full potential. As such, the SMSC enrichment of our pupils is at the heart of the school’s ethos.

We believe that our pupils cannot, and will not learn effectively unless:

  • they are happy and secure
  • their individuality is respected
  • their differences are celebrated
  • their difficulties are understood
  • their interests are extended
  • their talents are developed

All National Curriculum subjects provide opportunities to promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Explicit opportunities to promote pupils' development in these areas are provided in religious education and personal, social and health education (PSHE). A significant contribution is also made by school ethos, effective relationships throughout the school, collective worship and other curriculum activities.

There are posters distributed around the school highlighting SMSC and there is also a display board, in the school hall, which details any news of events and also celebrates our achievements. Please come and have a look.

Sometimes you don’t believe in yourself and the posters remind you not to give up.
