I was born in Hereford and grew up in Malvern. Having completed an Undergraduate Degree in English and Drama, followed by a Masters degree in Theatre for Young People at the University of Worcester, I worked overseas as a Children’s Entertainer before returning to University to complete my teacher training. Having previously taught in Hackney London, I returned to Herefordshire in 2023 to be closer to family and friends. I thoroughly enjoy working at Ewyas Harold Primary and the warm, community feel it provides. When I am not at school I enjoy; spending time with family and friends, going to the theatre, curling up with a good book and walking the Malvern Hills with my dog.

Teaching Assistant

Mrs Cathy Chesworth – Teaching Assistant
- First Aider
More about Cathy…
I have been involved with the school since 2003 as a teacher, teaching assistant and parent – consequently I care deeply about the school, the children and the staff. I have seen many changes in my years and am sure I will see many more on the next step of our journey to become the fantastic school we can be and will be. I see the school as warm and welcoming, that provides the children with an excellent education but also with all the other experiences that primary school should afford.

Mrs Julie Cole – Teaching Assistant
- Student Support (ELSA)
- First Aider
More about Julie…
My first involvement with the school was in 1998, when my first son stared here. Then in 2002 my second son started. When my second son finished here in 2010, I was asked to do some Teaching Assistant work, and have been here ever since. I have added to my responsibilities over the years, and am now a Breakfast club Assistant and more recently an ELSA, which is student support which I also love doing. I am passionate about Ewyas Harold and love working here. I do part time, as I also have a farm to run, where I have cattle and over 10,000 free range chickens, which produce eggs. I live on the farm alone, but my son and family live next door.

I was born is Bristol and lived in Portishead, North Somerset for the majority of my life. I’m NNEB trained and have worked in early years for over 40 years. We moved to Herefordshire in February 2021. I started at the school in November 2023. Having never worked in a small country school, this is a new experience for me. I’ve found it to be a warm, welcoming and nurturing place, for staff and children.

Mrs Jenny Watkins – Teaching Assistant
More about Jenny…
My name is Mrs Watkins (Jenny) and I joined the school in 2024. I can not tell you how thrilled I was to be offered a position as a Teaching Assistant after visiting the school. The staff are wonderful and so committed to the children, who are an absolute delight to work with. This school has a real community feel about it and everyone wants the best for the children, which makes for a lovely environment for everyone. I have been a Teaching Assistant in a large city primary school for many years. I have been a Rainbow Guide leader and gymnastic coach previously. My favourite place to be in my spare time is the coast and I have 2 grandchildren who keep me busy.

Mrs Sam Herron – Admin Assistant
More about Sam…
Originally from South Africa I came over to England in 1999 for a ‘gap year’ and after meeting my husband very quickly realised I was staying for good. After a few years living in Surrey we made our way back up to Gloucester to be near family and that remained home until May 2024 when we made the exciting move to Hereford. I love being outdoors, growing veg and flowers or cold water swimming being some of my favourite hobbies. I’m also keen to have a go at almost anything crafty particularly enjoying knitting and crochet. As a mum to 4 kids, 3 dogs and a cat life is always pretty busy!

Mrs Janet Mailes – Administrator
More about Janet…
Born and bred in Portsmouth, I moved to Ewyas Harold in 1993 when I got married. I love the countryside in Herefordshire and try to walk regularly with my husband.
I have been working at Ewyas Harold Primary School since 2000 and alongside the administrative post I am Clerk to Governors I find the challenge rewarding and fits well with the administrative post at school. When I’m not at school I enjoy my family, singing, walking and researching family history to name a few.
